about

This is a song I wrote years before I recorded this album and it was written for just piano. I decided to rework it for this album and it fit on there pretty nice.

lyrics

Billy's on the street, he's got nothing to eat, no one to work for.
The economy was down in his small little town, the boss shut the door
He’s not to blame
Can anybody feel his shame?

Mary's all alone since her husband left her home with the children
Well how could she compete with that pretty young thing that he works with?
She’s not to blame
Can anybody feel her pain?
(as she’s crying)

“Who will be my friend?
Who will be my friend?
Who will be my friend?
Be my friend?”

Johnny's not the same as the other boys and girls he goes to school with
His face is deformed and his family's rather poor, kids call him stupid.
He’s not to blame
Can anybody feel his pain?
(as he’s crying)

Jesus can heal their hearts torn all apart.
He can put ‘em together again.
Together again.
Once again.
Together again.

“Will you be my friend?
Will you be my friend, Oh Jesus?
Will you be my friend?
Be my friend?”

I know You know what it’s like to have nothing.
You know what it’s like to be hated.
You know what it’s like to be laughed at.
